Kite Zone - St Andrews

This is just a reminder about the dedicated kite zone at St Andrews for those of you who may not have visited West Sands or have not been there recently.

The kite zone is at the far end of West sands beach, towards the RAF Leuchars end of the beach. It is marked out by 2 yellow flags. The first flag that you drive past, on your right hand side, at the last mini-roundabout, is the start of the zone and kiters are asked not to kite on the left hand side of this flag - the St Andrews side. The second flag is approx a mile further down the beach towards Leuchars / Tentsmuir.

Kiters are asked not to fly past the second flag either as it is a nature reserve and you are also heading towards the flight path for RAF Leuchars!

There is now a barrier in place at the far end of the beach to stop cars parking on the dunes. Please park on the left hand side before the "No parking beyond this point" signs and the turning circle and use the slipway to take your kites, buggies and boards down to the beach rather than through the dunes.

If possible, do not setup in front of the slipway, walk to the left or right as this will allow access to the beach for others.

I would like to add that kite buggying is now officially allowed on the closed off road according to the sign on the barrier.

Not my cup of tea but if you're desperate and the tides in. Probably best only to fly from this road in an offshore otherwise your kite will be flying over the fence and onto the golf coarse.
