Just in case you haven't seen the opening few minutes of the 1981 film 'Chariots of Fire' which was filmed on West Sands (doubling as Kent!!!)...

Notice the kite towards the end of the clip...

Tut, he's not even on the beach never mind the kite zone.

Does give us a precedent for kiting on the Old Course though

One of the runners in the film is my boss Ian Grieve!! (its his claim to fame!!) still goes out running at lunch time, he is 60 now!!
