Hi everyone, after much debating and alot of browsing i finally brought a 3m PKD buster as my first kite form the kind guys at marionville models (cheers), so thought it would be a good idea to take a wee drive to st andrews today and give it go. when i finally got the courage to get out and fly it, the wind was a little on the strong site for my liking. so started to unpack the kite and had to untangle one of the lines so akfter 30 mins or so i was ready. gave a wee tug and the next thing i was about 10m away form my girl friend and she never even notice till she turned around. so sorted my self out while the kiute was vertical and then diped into the power zone and was getting dragged around like a wee child, to my girl friends amusment. i have never had so much fun in ages, abit sore though .didn't that many people there today out kiting, are there many prople in east lothain kiting???? as im living there at the moment and it would be good to meet people in the area, if not the st andrews. hopefully the next time the winds are a little calmer.

If the wind is too strong for you GO HOME! Do not put a kite up in too much wind, you will get hurt, or hurt someone else. (or lose or damage a kite)

I realise when you first get a kite all you want to do is fly, but think about what you're doing, and think safety first. The beach/field will still be there next weekend, make sure you are too.

good to hear you've got a new kite but as Anne says wait for nicer winds.

Anyway Angie and I are in East Lothian and were down early at Belhaven yesterday morning. Only got a short spell in the buggy before the wind picked up and I felt over powered. Nearer you is Gullane beach where mainly kitesurfers fly and Longniddry bents, also kitesurfers.

Cockenzie power station is where the likes of Ally fly, West side on the grass.

During breaks at work I sometimes go down North Berwick beach or Recreation Park for static flying.

touch wood i never got hurt, but it feels like i hav done a heavey sesion at the gym, i only got about 30min flying then thought it was to much for the first time so i did pack it in after all, it was competely different to flying my old 2 line kite but it did give me the same buzz having the raw power. Yes i have seen in the past people flying there kites arount east lothain but my problem is time. with work im always away south of the border of having to stay up north so it,s hard getting out when the tide is out. im looking forward to meeting up with poeple around here. thank for the feed back and see you guys soon.

Glad you had but but I agree with what has been said above and I also recommned you look at getting kiting insurance if you havent done so already, www.spka.org . Its worth every penny. The busters are great kites and they are probably one of our best sellers and we recommend them to many of our students who get in to the sport.

We are currently in Tiree having a kiting holiday but will be in St Andrews most weekends. Check out the meets section. Maybe see you up there.....

As its your first 4 line kite I hope when you bought it you were given safety advice and recommended flying conditions for the 3m?
When you buy a kite from tractionkiting.co.uk we like to meet you at the beach and let you try a few kites especially if its your first one. When you find the kite thats right for you we set it up with you and make sure you are comfortable with all aspects of it. This is a free service, we are here to promote the sport in Scotland and as always promote it safely.
