Currently using a 2.5 beamer...easy to use and very controllable

Any recommendations for a 4 to 5 metre kite...looking for smooth handling & maybe a bit of lift once I get used to it

Any advice welcome

The PKD Busters are good in these sizes and perfect if your on a budget. Then there is the Ozone Cult, really nice kites but as with the Buster, it doesnt have a great deal of lift.

The Flexifoil Blades have plenty of lift but it can be tamed once you have learnt to fly it in nice winds, but be warned, the bite!

The Ozone Haka is another lifty kite and will bite as well if not treated with respect.

What would your budget be? This will help with giving you advice.....

Budget I guess up to £150-200

Have done all my kiting so far with handles....should I consider a bar once I get used to the buggy??

Cheers

With reference to the Bar for Buggying. They are useful if you are freestyling in as much as they allow you to spin out any twists in the lines much better than using hangles would - especially when using a harness. However, I used to worry about the whole catching on the ground problem or the back tyres which I felt used to be an issue with larger sized bars. But that dissapeared with experience and confidence in the buggy.

As for the budget You probably wont get a new blade in that price range. Maybe look out for second hand Blade III's even blade IV's. But as Owain said, they are designed to lift, they do it well and will bite if not flown with respect for wind conditions....

As James says, bars can be used in the buggy and its all I use these days since the MantaII 10m and the AccessII 6m are both depowerable kites.
For a lifty kite I wouldnt go any smaller than 4m, the reason is the minute you start to leave the ground you need something that will lower you down smoothly, rather than drop you like a stone.
Second hand market might be your best option for a lifty kite for your buget a 4m Blade IV with lines and handles is currently around the £300 mark, a 5m Haka is also about £300.
