Best way to stop it. 3 Years, 6 Months ago
Looking for suggestions, ideas, and thoughts on how to stop the back axle from bending.
Before you say it, no Im not going to stop jumping

I currently have a towl rail setup which has worked for the past 4 years but I think its time I maybe look at getting a new one.

Anyone got any concepts that they think might work?

Hmm I would be interested to try winddragons Plascit axle. My buggy is now in a terrible state. Back axle is bent in two axes... one set of sidetubes bent. And you know the two buckles that goto the back of the seat? and wrap round the axle? One of them has bust too now . So i'm tempted to buy a new buggy, and have it reinforced before I ride it...

However, I think that the support that you had on you're axle owain would be better if it had a weld onto the middle of the axle also. I am only using basic structure engineering knowledge and am probably wrong so if anyone (POPEYETHEWELDER!! ) ) .

Any ideas though Tom? I liked Syri's idea and would be interested in testing it but if it.

My thought is to strengthen it from underneath rather than on top.

This would also prevent you hitting your back on anything if it goes wrong...

a possibility for underneath may be an angle iron 25 x 25 or maybe even 30 x 30 (can't remember what diameter the flexi axles are)
O
V
forgive the crude 'O' and 'V' above representing an end-on view of the axle and angle iron, but basically tack weld along both legs from one end to the other. I'd tend to point the V towards 7 o'clock rather than 6 o'clock as most landings all tend to be rear axle first therefore the axle would be rotated anti-clockwise slightly. An angle is almost impossible to bend in that direction when its anchored every inch or 2 along its length.

The only draw back I can see with it is, it then presents an 'edge' to land on top of if the buggy should flip under you on landing although I suspect the harness would never really allow that to happen unless you had to QR in the air!

you shouldnt really be hitting your back on the towel rail anyways as the best angle for it is apparently 45 degrees and not vertical as mine was and that never bent at all.

Hmmm, If you strengthen the axle, then something else will give? Axle bolts!!!!!
At least if the axle bends, it saves YOU breaking/bending!!!!
