Homebuilt Buggy 2 Years, 8 Months ago
Decided would have a go at making a basic buggy from whatever scrap I had lying around, its nothing fancy, just a basic buggy that'll get me up and down the beach! Got a photo of progress so far, going to need to buy a wheel for the front as I've not got a decent enough one that'll do the job, maybe buy a flexi buggy wheel, they come with bearings so should do the job nicely!

The best bit of it is its cost me £5 so far for some new wheel bearings for the back wheels! So if it doesnt work out I can chop it up and start again, lol! Everything has been fabricated from scratch, the rear wheels used to be a pair of very small trailer indespension units which I chopped about, they are nice and light and do the job, could maybe be a bit wider but will be ok for now. If it turns out ok then I think I'll do another one and put some more time & money into it.

Looking good
What are you using for the rear wheel bolts?
My home made buggy was a tonne weight,i could not get a strong enough rear axle without getting someone to turn specials for me on a lathe.
And i used a plastic chair from the works canteen for my seat:lol:

Best of luck

Ah wicked yeah trying to work out what I could make a reasonable seat out of! The rear wheels are chopped down indespension units from an old trailer. Its just basically a small stub axle and the wheel and bearings are all held onto it with a crown nut and pin idea. I used a piece of angle for the rear axle and welded the cut down units onto each end of it. Run out of gas for the mig at the moment, need top get my bottle filled and finish it off, don't know what I could use as a bearing for the wheelbarrow wheel I was thinking of using for the front, might end up having ot buy one of the flexi wheels for it.

The side rails are made up from angle iron, its been cut and bent and re-welded at the right angle, I might put something else in there to help strengthen them up, I've had a sit on it though and stood on it and jumped up and down a bit as I was a bit worried about them too but they are pretty solid. Theres another cross brace to go across the side rails nearer the front before they bend up but I'm gonna use it for mounting the front of the seat so I've left it out for now until I know what I'm using to stick my bum on!
