board will deffinatly have been a speed board - assymetrical long and thin.... my guess is he was probably using a 7 or 9m in 40+ knots of wind....

Didnt even realise they made speed boards for kitesurfing! Next you will be telling me they are making race kites for the water.....

Think of the height he could get if he chucked the kite backwards when doing 50knots!

edit: Just did a conversion
50knots = 57.5389724mph! Thats even faster than I originally thought. Thats got to hurt if you wipe out!

dont think anyone is making kitesurf kites specifically for speed but they have been using specially designed boards for a while. they typically looks something like this

http://www.ikiteboarding.com/get/getart ... spx?id=654 [/img]

i think peopel genarly have a range becuase they are designed to be ridden in only 1 direction and the sea state dictates what the optimuim board would be for the conditions

O - should point out too that the speed is an average over a set distance ( think its usually 200m ) so he was going a bit quicker.... a wipeout wouldnt be pretty - remember reading chris calthrop had his face rebuilt after a speed run wipeout years back
