Headed out to Shell bay today and was met with no wind at all so decided to go for a walk along the beach in the hope that it might pick up after a while. Headed out around by the bridges and walked onto the beach at the signpost and was immediately disgusted by what I was greeted by. Quite obviously a group had been camping there the previous night and had started a fire on the beach, around the remains of the fire were a huge amount of empty beer bottles,some of them smashed and other various bits of rubbish were strewn close to where their tent had obviously been sitting.

I decided to walk along back toward the stream and things didn't get any better, there's rubbish everywhere. I don't know how much of this is just flotsam and jetsam or how much of it is dumped locally, but it's nothing short of atrocious......hard to believe the beach 200yds away at the caravan site is a Seaside award beach

I think a volunteer clean up of this beach is required, I remember we talked about it a while back but nothing came from it. I know its not our job to clean up other peoples mess but maybe still worth doing.

Is there still interest in this? We can get black bags, gloves and things like this from the council.

it really surprises me that the caravan site doesnt seem to push to get something done about it!

I contacted the council last year, they sent an inspector, who agreed it was dire and promised it would get a priority clean up.......... never happened tho.

We also contacted the council and we were told if we wanted to get a group together to clean the place up then they would happily support this, not suprising.

Will check out diary and get some dates online either tonight or tomorrow. *sends a reminder email to himself*

You are about right though Mac, they will send bin bags, litter picker things and a skip if required. You never know you may get a councillor along to help out but lets not get carried away

Ok, the Shell Bay clean up will be on the 28th June. Low tide is about 2pm so if we start earlyish and the wind is good we can also have a bit of a kiting session at the same time. Maybe have a BBQ if people would be interested in that.
